My baby had the perfect birth: I delivered naturally at a hospital and I was so proud of myself and trusting my body. Unfortunately, I tore through an artery and passed out twice from blood loss. Breastfeeding had gone okay up to the point where I had to get a blood transfusion. When I was hooked up to a heart monitor, blood pressure cuff, IV, and the blood, I had no way to breastfeed my baby. So I pumped and she was bottle fed in the hospital. When I was finally able to feed her again, we had difficulties and a nurse slapped a nipple shield on and informed me that I had flat nipples. I accepted that my body could not function normally and doubted my ability. For the next 3 months, I tried unsuccessfully several times to wean my baby off the nipple shield. But it wasn’t until I found Wendy Rush on Facebook, that I found success. I called her and she came over the next day to help me. I’ve never met a more motivational person. She was just full of so much positive energy that I began again to trust my body to do what it was designed to do. She told me I had a “beautiful nipple” and that she didn’t know why the nurse at the hospital had given me the shield in the first place. After our visit, it took me a few days to finally be shield free. Every night, I texted Wendy my success and frustration. She was always so positive and it was her knowledge and belief in me that created this new bond I have with my baby. My sweet girl and I are now equipment free when it comes to her eating and I feel so amazing and confident in myself. Wendy gave up so much time so that I would have success. I am so glad she was the person I finally asked to help me. She was perfect for helping me through this process. Anyone who needs any help or support about breastfeeding would benefit from Wendy’s contagious positive energy.
